Our Approach
Built for this. Not adapted to it.
Most recruitment agencies were not designed for social care. They were designed for something else, and social care became one more sector in a long list. AR Recruitment is different in the most straightforward way possible: we built this specifically for children's homes and care settings, because we believed the sector deserved better than it was getting.
Why AR exists
A wrong hire here does not cost money. It costs something that cannot be counted.
The standard of staffing in social care has consequences that most industries never have to think about. A wrong hire in a logistics firm costs money. A wrong hire in a children's home affects the life of a child. That reality shaped everything about how we work.
We also saw something else. The data behind the sector tells a clear story. Over 131,000 posts unfilled. Nearly one in five children's homes without a registered manager in post. Providers turning children away not because they lacked beds, but because they lacked the trained staff to fill them. That is not a recruitment problem. That is a system failure. And while we cannot fix the system, we can do our part within it.
The background that shapes this
Zero margin for error was not a phrase. It was the standard.
AR Recruitment was built by two people who reached the same standard from opposite directions. One came from the precision of aerospace engineering, where a single part in the wrong place carried real consequences. One came up through social care itself, holding every role on the floor in turn. This is where those two worlds meet.
Phaibion Royal Co-Founder
From aerospace precision engineering
Before AR Recruitment, Phaibion spent years in precision engineering, working on aircraft systems at Rolls-Royce and Airbus where the wrong component in the wrong place had consequences. You learn very quickly that rigorous process and the right people executing it are not separable. One without the other is not enough.
That discipline is the foundation of how AR Recruitment operates. Social care is not aerospace, but the principle is the same. Standards exist for a reason. The right person in the right role changes outcomes.
Marcus Anderson Co-Founder
From the care floor, every role
Marcus's route into this work could not be more directly relevant to what AR Recruitment is here to do. He built his career inside social care from the ground up: Support Worker, Senior Support Worker, Deputy Manager, Registered Manager. That progression means he understands not just what the job description says, but what the work actually demands. The weight a registered manager carries at the end of a difficult shift. The relationship a residential care worker builds over months with a young person who has learned not to trust adults.
That knowledge cannot be acquired by reading Ofsted guidance. He brings it because he lived it. When AR Recruitment assesses a candidate for a senior role, the conversation is a genuine one, between people who understand the work on both sides of the table.
Opposite beginnings. One standard, held from both sides of the table.
Our values
Four commitments we are happy to be held to.
Integrity
We tell providers when we cannot help them. We tell candidates when a role is not right for them. We do not place for the sake of a fee.
Discretion
Candidates trust us with their careers. Providers trust us with sensitive information about their teams and their services. That trust is not taken lightly.
Care
We work in social care because the work matters. That belief runs through every search we conduct and every candidate we represent.
Specialism
We do one thing. We do it properly. Generalism is not a feature.
Our method
Brief. Search. Assess. Place.
Brief
We understand the role, the setting, and the culture before we begin searching.
Search
We use live data from over 1,300 monitored job boards combined with direct outreach to find candidates who may not be visible through conventional channels.
Assess
We speak to every candidate before they are presented to you. You receive a shortlist, not a pile.
Place
We follow through. A placement is not the end of our involvement. It is the beginning of the relationship.
Work the way the sector deserves.
If that sounds like the kind of partner you want, let us talk.
